YouTube video on a link in bio

A YouTube video on a link in bio can play on the page. A Short, a live link, or a playlist can too. A channel home page stays a button.
Paste the video, not the channel
A YouTube video on a link in bio plays on the page when the address is a watch link, a youtu.be link, a Short, a live link, or a playlist. Vimeo plays when the address is a video. A channel home page, a handle, or a community post does not become a player. Those stay buttons.
Copy the address from the share button on the video itself. The title you give the block is the label on your page, such as Friday’s video. Choose an embed when you want the watch to happen here. A poster is the still, for when you would rather send the tap out to YouTube.
What will not embed
TikTok, an Instagram Reel, and a Facebook video do not play inside this page. Add them as https buttons. The page does not keep custom HTML or a pasted iframe, so there is no second way to force another host in.
A YouTube link with no video id and no playlist will fail the check in the studio. That is the channel URL. Use it as a button labelled The channel, under the video you want watched first.
Lead with the thing they came to watch
Someone who taps a link in a YouTube about box, or under a Short, is looking for the next watch. Put that video first. The channel, a membership, and a shop come after it. The classic starter is already in that order. Replace the example name and the example links.
Do not put a row of old uploads above the new one. If an older video still matters, add it second. The first screen should answer “what do I watch now?”
Keep the about-box link still
Put makemylink.space and your name in the channel details once. When the next video is ready, replace the URL in the studio and publish. The about box does not need a new paste, and the description of every old upload can keep pointing at the same address.
A film behind the buttons is optional. If a visitor has reduced motion turned on, the page should not force that film to run. The video block is the thing they chose to watch. The background is not.
A playlist is a series, not a shortcut
A playlist URL can play as a series. Use it when the visit is “start the course” or “hear the set”, and the order of the playlist is the order you mean. Do not use a playlist when you wanted one new upload. A playlist will not pick Friday’s video for you.
A live URL works while that live address is valid on YouTube. After the stream, replace it with the archive or remove the block. A dead live link is a blank player on a page you already published.
Paste the watch link, not the channel
On the video, tap share and copy the link. A normal upload looks like youtube.com/watch, or youtu.be, plus the id. A Short has /shorts/ in the path. A live video has /live/. A playlist has a list id. Any of those can play on the page. The channel URL, the one that is only /@yourname, cannot.
Add a video block, paste the address, and name it Friday’s video or whatever you would say out loud. Put it first. Under it, a button labelled The channel can point at the channel home. A membership or a shop comes after that, if you have them.
Vimeo works when the link is the video, not the profile. TikTok and a Reel do not embed. Those are buttons that open the other app. There is no custom HTML field to force them in.
Publish, open YouTube on your phone, tap the website line, and play the video on your page. If you still see last month’s upload, the draft was not published, or the about box still points at a different address.
Publish, then watch it from the phone
Play the video in the draft. Then publish and open the public page from YouTube’s about box, not only from the studio. You should land on your page, and the first player should be the upload you just checked.
Views of the page and clicks on the other buttons are stored. A play inside the YouTube player is YouTube’s count, not a click in the studio. Read each number for what it is.
Questions
- Can I put two videos on the page?
- Yes. The first one should be the video you want watched. Anything after that is easy to skip, so do not bury the new upload.
- Does a Short play on the page?
- A YouTube Shorts URL can play. A TikTok or an Instagram Reel does not. Those open as buttons.
- Does this replace the channel?
- No. The videos stay on YouTube. This page is the one address in the about box, so you can change which video is first without pasting a new link.
